Martina Huson Artist BiographyA desire to capture West Virginia’s rich quilting culture in glass led Martina to experiment in glass fusing, which has now become the main focus of her work.Her fusing innovations have led to production of a full line of quilt pattern jewelry, of which one design was selected by QVC in 1995 as one of the twenty best small business products of West Virginia. Click here for more on glass fusing? Since then, Martina has expanded her fused line to include other jewelry designs, decorative bowls, candle covers, suncatchers, and other art items. She has created unique fused glass gifts for presentation by both profit and non-profit businesses, including the West Virginia Environmental Institute Inc., the West Virginia Mining and Reclamation Association, and Kanawha Players, Inc., West Virginia’s official state theater. Martina began her stained glass career in Conroe, Texas in 1978 and has operated Martina’s Stained Glass Studio in Charleston, West Virginia since 1994. In addition to studying graphic design at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and receiving a BA in Art from West Virginia State College in 1992, she has studied with several leading glass artists. Her architectural glass appears in many fine homes, churches and businesses in Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Texas and West Virginia, as well as in Tamarack, West Virginia’s arts showcase center. She has authored three books of glass designs and, by invitation from the publisher, was included in a multi-artist design book in 1996. Martina’s Stained Glass Studio, a division of Tina, Inc., is a full service studio offering custom designed stained glass, beginning and advanced instruction, retail sales of stained glass and related tools and supplies, and both wholesale and retail sales of original design and quilt pattern stained glass jewelry and fused glass works of art. |
